How these guides are made

Standards every guide follows

Statistics come from primary sources, named and dated beside the figure: the Federal Reserve, TransUnion, the CFPB, the FTC, the NCUA and lenders' own disclosures. Calculations show their assumptions so you can rerun them. Rates are refreshed after each quarterly Fed release and each monthly Bankrate reading, and the review date at the top of each page records the most recent check. Lenders cannot pay for placement, and compensation never changes a number. Read the full editorial policy.

Primary sources only

Fed, TransUnion, CFPB, FTC, NCUA and lender disclosures. Secondary sources are used only to cross-check.

Show the math

Every payment or savings figure states its inputs; the calculators run the same formulas.

Dated and re-verified

Each page carries a review date and a scheduled next review tied to the data release it depends on.

Independent

Not a lender, not affiliated with any lender named, including Upstart Network, Inc.
